Google
glass project is a research and development program developed by Google. Google
invents new high-technology head-mounted glasses that could do everything just
like what one’s smartphone could do. However, this invention will free their
users’ hands. Users could just use their voice to give instructions like “Take
the picture” or “Call my mom”.
As
a teacher, Google glass is a super cool and useful technology that one could adapt
to my daily teaching process. The ultimate goal for language teaching is
communication. Without the skill of communication, though my students could recite
the whole dictionary, they don’t truly master the language. So, it is necessary
for the teacher to bring authentic teaching and learning content to students. With
the adaption of Google Glass, teacher could always show students’ first hand
live streams, and it is much more interesting than listening to the lecture.
For example, you are going to teach Forbidden City in China, you could connect
with a tour guide online and let the students to experience the Forbidden City
from the first angle view.
Advantages:
1. First-hand real authentic teaching materials.
2. Real-time
information sharing.
Disadvantages:
1. Too expensive.
2. Cheating and
irrelevant information. Teacher cannot get the information behind students’
glass. If the students display inappropriate or irrelevant information during
the class or test time, it is hard for teacher to find out, and it is unfair to
other students.
